Doomed Love is a hilarious simulation video game wherein you can romance the grotesque monsters from the hit first-person shooter, Doom. Developed by davidbcooper, this 2D indie visual novel is a parody dating simulator that can be enjoyed by both fans and non-fans of the original game. 

Similar to Contract Demon, Doomed Love has you playing as the protagonist to a wacky romance from Hell. However, despite the funny premise, this game actually employs good writing for each of its romance routes and is clearly a loving homage to the original Doom game.

Doom is a popular FPS video game series and media franchise first released in 1993. The series follows the adventures of an unnamed space marine—affectionately called “Doomguy” by fans—as he battles the demons of Hell with his trusty guns. The first game is considered one of the pioneering first-person shooter games and its popularity inspired numerous sequels, spin-offs, other media, and other FPS games.

Doomed Love is no FPS game, though—rather, it’s a silly but heartwarming parody VN wherein you don’t have to kill off demons to win. In this game, you play as an average Zombieman monster who aims to befriend and woo the demons to at least get a date for the Icon of Sin Festival. There are four love interests available and five endings you can unlock. 

In the spirit of parodying a brutal and gory game, the art and music in this game have been replaced with original illustrations and a cheerful rendition to reflect the sudden genre change. Thus, you can expect a complete lack of gore and violence here, and the game makes it up to you with a surprisingly well-written story. However, the few CG art you unlock doesn’t have a gallery.

A nice little VN

All in all, Doomed Love is a great little fangame if you’d like to try something silly but clearly made with love. While there’s no gallery menu for the CGs, the short story about wooing classic Doom enemies can still be a fun experience—regardless of your knowledge of the FPS series. It offers a nice story that actually fits the lore of Doom.
